Registering for the UNP

You are invited to become a full participant in the Undergraduate Neuroscience Program at Duke. We offer courses and research opportunities at every level of brain organization, from the molecular (e.g. membrane physiology, neurochemistry), through the systemic (e.g., integrative neurophysiology, comparative neuroanatomy) to the organismic (e.g. perception, memory, learning, animal behavior, human mental disorders). We especially encourage participation outside of the classroom, such as through Independent Study research with neuroscience faculty and/or by participating in special seminars and other Program events and activities.

Note that there are three avenues for participating in the Neuroscience Program:

Specific requirements for each of these avenues are listed on the Program Requirements page.

Registration Instructions for Biology Majors

All Biology majors who wish to concentrate in Neuroscience must register through the Biology Department's Office of Undergraduate Studies. Staff from this office enrolls students in the neuroscience concentration, and notifies the registrar to add the concentration to students' academic plan. Thus: Biology majors may NOT enroll directly through the Office of the Registrar.

It is highly recommended that students also subscribe to the UNP Email Listserv in order to receive current information from Program Directors regarding upcoming talks, course offerings, and research opportunities.

Registration Instructions for Psychology Majors

Psychology majors officially register for the Neuroscience Concentration directly through the University Registrar's Office.

Students should then contact the Psychology Department's Neuroscience Program Director. The director will add the student's name to the current list of active participants, which will enhance the ability of Program staff to advise students and assess their progression through the program.

It is highly recommended that students also subscribe to the UNP Email Listserv in order to receive current information from Program Directors regarding upcoming talks, course offerings, and research opportunities.

Registration Instructions for the Neuroscience Certificate (majors other than Psych or Bio)

Students majoring in disciplines other than Biology or Psychology officially register for the Neuroscience Certificate directly through the University Registrar's Office.

Students should then contact the Primary Director of the Neuroscience Program.
