Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the Neuroscience Concentration and the Neuroscience Certificate?

This is very simple. If you are a Biology or Psychology major, you participate in a concentration of study within your major. It does not add any extra coursework toward completion of your major, although it will limit the courses you may take as electives within either Psychology or Biology. If you are not majoring in Biology or Psychology, you will participate in the UNP via the course sequence leading to a certificate in neuroscience. The coursework for the certificate program is much the same as that of the concentration. Participants must complete the two core courses, plus four (4) electives in neuroscience. Basically, this version of the program functions as an interdisciplinary minor.

Program participants should make sure that the correct designation (concentration or certificate) is on your program of study. Sometimes this is entered into the system incorrectly. (Check this by viewing your "current academic status" on Aces and verify that the neuroscience program is correctly identified as either a concentration or a certificate.
